FIVE SEEDS
“I’m Not a Gardener, But God Is”
“For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.” (Isaiah 61:11)
I am a terrible gardener. I admire the beauty of flowers, but I was not born with a green thumb. I used to warn my children that any plant given to me for Mother’s Day was destined for an early grave. Eventually, they stopped buying me real plants and switched to silk ones—far safer for everyone involved.
But God is a gardener, quietly tending the soil of our hearts and planting seeds we may not even notice at first. And when He decides to grow something inside one of His children, He doesn’t depend on our skill or experience. He plants the seed Himself, then tends it with the perfect blend of soil, sun, and rain. He knows what He’s cultivating long before we see the first sprout.
This past year, God planted five new seeds in me—five unexpected endeavors I never anticipated, never planned for, and certainly never saw coming. In His timing, those seeds—of hope, endurance, compassion, and faith—begin to sprout and flourish. Over the next few days, I’ll share each one. Not as accomplishments, but as evidence of a Gardener who knows exactly what He’s doing.
🙏 Closing Prayer
Lord, You are the Gardener of our lives. As we step into a new year, help us to see not our own accomplishments, but the seeds You have sown. Teach us to trust Your timing, to welcome Your tending, and to rejoice in the growth You bring. May the seeds planted this year flourish into blessings for us and for others, all to Your glory. Amen.
✨ Reflection Question
As you look back on this year, what seeds has God planted in you—quiet beginnings that may not yet be fully grown, but are already signs of His presence and care?
