High school teachers are ruled by the bell. We have 42 minutes to teach a class, then three minutes in between to reset for the next class. This includes, of course, time to run to the Ladies’ room. As Bel Kaufman astutely observed in Up the Down Staircase, “All teachers develop a bladder problem.” I’m fortunate in that the Ladies’ Room is just around the corner from me. My sympathy to those of you on the third floor who have a ways to run!
In retirement, my restroom will be three doors down from my home office!
What reasons would you have for retiring or making a change in your life?
That's certainly a reason to retire!
Oh, how I remember that challenge when I was still teaching. As a primary teacher, it was especially difficult when bad weather meant indoor recess. Fortunately, my colleague's classroom and mine shared a door. We would stand in the doorway supervising both classes as one of us made a dash to the restroom. It was anything but ideal, but we made it work.
