Remember this song by Chicago way back in 1972? It was my freshman year in college before KC and vision issues entered my life and way before my role as a spousal caregiver became my reality.
But the song helped me through the last months of Ron’s hospice care. During the week, his care aide would arrive at 7 AM and leave at 5 PM, when I took over Ron’s care. But on Saturdays? On Saturdays, I’d requested the aide not arrive until 8 PM. If Ron had experienced a quiet night and was sleeping, I had a WHOLE HOUR to sit on the couch, sip tea, and listen to “Saturdays in the Park.”
Guess you could say this song helped me through some very rough moments. And now, in retirement, I can spend all the Saturdays in the park instead of planning lessons.
What’s a song that got you through some rough moments in your life?
When my late husband was dying, a friend brought over a CD of Eva Cassidy's songs. Up until then, I had never heard of her. Her music is soothing to the soul. To this day, whenever I listen to her music, I think of those final precious weeks with Pat.
