Writing at a coffee shop sounds like a great place to get visibility as a writer, but there are times when I need a broader vista. I’m fortunate to live close to the Delaware River and a lovely little park. Not only did it provide some needed peace for me during the years of spousal caregiving, but it also offered a place to quietly reflect.
Water has calming psychological effects. Particularly ocean water, but that’s in another post!
“All of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea — whether it is to sail or to watch it — we are going back from whence we came.”
– President John F. Kennedy
I seldom take my laptop to the river, but I do have a notebook to scribble down ideas. The river also played a large role in Allen’s journey of acceptance of his father’s death.
Where is a place you can find peace when the world gets too loud and crazy?
I have read there's energy in the air when we're by water. It's negative ions, something we don't experience walking down a city street or sitting at our desk at home.
