No doubt about it, taking the train into the city the last few years has been great. I have avoided city traffic, finding parking, and the—so important to those of us with KC—the need to drive in the dark of winter mornings. I’ve also met great “train friends” to share the ride.
BUT…
SEPTA, in working on the tracks, has needed to change THE train schedule several times this year. Shouldn’t be a big deal and it’s not, except that the trains that used to run every half-hour pre-pandemic now run every hour. I used to be able to leave school at 3:30 and make it to the train by 4:00. But there is no 4:00 train. The next one is at 4:37! Which leaves me waiting on a platform for far longer than I would like to!
And the morning train that used to be at 6:29 is now at 6:23. Which wouldn’t seem to be a big deal, but can be the difference between one and two cups of early morning caffeine.
Normal? On the train, “normal” just does not exist.
How did you get to work? Are you a user of public transportation? What are the pros and cons?
Oh, that would be a tough one for me. I would look be looking forward to leaving the train schedule behind. I drove to work, a whopping 15 miles, mostly through rural roads. Lovely, to be honest with you. However, the foggy winters forced me to roll down my windows at intersections to listen for cars.
