I warned you on more than one occasion that there would be some “knitting posts” as reasons for retiring. This one is not about yarn. Or projects. Or learning to use a knitting machine. This one is about the various tools needed to knit: needles, stitch holders, measuring tape, tapestry needles, and various other instruments that, to the untrained eye, look like so many pieces of metal and plastic thrown into a cube.
Au contraire! As I used to explain to my husband, each and every one of these items is not only intricately entwined with the practice of knitting but also with my mental health.
Knitting is my yoga.
But like any other hobby/life support, the materials involved can get out of hand. Currently, my various needles—bamboo, plastic, metal, cable, straight, double-pointed—are all tossed into a hodgepodge and tangling with each other. Sometimes I can’t find the particular size I’m looking for. It may be lingering on a forgotten project or rolling around on the bottom of a tote bag or entered the black hole of knitting needles. Like all persons dedicated to the art of fiber, I just go out and buy another one.
But, I know that size ten cable is in that bin SOMEWHERE. I just need some time to find it!
What’s your go-to hobby for a little Zen- like relaxation?
Always makes me smile to hear from a sister knitter 🤗
Escaping in a really good book.
