When I first started taking the train into the city to avoid driving with my very imperfect vision, my father worried about my safety. I quickly found a group of “train friends” and we looked out for each other and saved seats on the Quiet Car. But my double vision still doesn’t adjust well to pulling up in the darkness of the train station. It’s more than a little spooky! Not to mention cold and sometimes snowy.

Plus, public transportation is a bit 🦠 germy. 😝
That's a good reason to retire. Maybe daylight driving still is ok for you?
I stopped driving several years ago when I couldn't turn the key to start the car/ or couldn't press the button to get the automatic gear on D. Couldn't get far with such problems! (My arthritis forced me to retire long before I stopped driving.)
