The Wearing of Hats

With apologies to TS Eliot

The wearing of hats is a personal trait

And may depend on the seasons.

But placing a hat upon your pate

Is always for one of three reasons.

The first is to cover your head, of course

And protect it from sun or snow

This depends upon the weather source

And the appropriate weather chapeau.

The second reason is a bit more vain

Because hats can be quite the fashion.

When you sashay in your hat down the lane

It will make you look quite dashing!

The third reason’s a secret a hatter must know

When deciding what to put on their dome

The hat covers your tresses, so in rain or snow

You’ll never have need of a comb.

I like to wear hats! The sun bothers my eyes, so a hat helps me keep them shaded. When I was a kid, my mother and I always wore a hat to church. And while I don’t always wear a hat to church these days, I never fail to get some compliments when I do!
