An earlier post lamented the lack of available lunch options at school, but along with having lunch when and what I want, eating with friends is also a perk in retirement.
Right now, I have three close girlfriends with whom I try to have dinner once a month, but weather and other duties often interfere. The idea of having a lunch date, when it’s still light out and my KC eyes are not fighting against oncoming headlights, is wonderful!
It’s no surprise that eating with friends and loved ones can facilitate feelings of “bondedness” between people, according to a 2017 study from the journal Adaptive Human Behavior and Physiology.
I’ll admit that I eat alone at my desk most of the time, usually with a few students in my room who need some help with an assignment. It might also be a few minutes to read or unwind or make personal phone calls.
But I’m with Winnie-the-Pooh on this. “How about lunch?” Well, how about it?
If you were close enough to me, where would you like to go to lunch?
