A few years ago, my daughter Bonnie worked as a photographer on the Spirit of Philadelphia river cruise ship. It was on that ship that she met Bruce Willis. (She was not the first of my children to meet Bruce Willis, but that’s another story.) I’d always planned on Ron and I taking the cruise, but he became too ill to travel so I never went.
Here’s my chance.
A friend and I are planning on the luncheon cruise this summer and I am looking forward to it. It seems appropriate that after spending much of my teaching life in the high schools and colleges of Philadelphia, I now get to see another side of the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection from a different angle: the river.
There are quite a few other things I’d like to do in Philadelphia: take a bus tour of the historic areas, visit the museums, and see the Seaport Museum. And there is an organization called “Art Reach” which provides $2.00 passes for a Medicaid recipient and a companion to 80 cultural sites in Philadelphia and Delaware. This organization believes ART IS A HUMAN RIGHT.
As an adult with disabilities, Allen qualifies for passes! Sure hope he’ll let ME be his companion!
Are there sights you’d like to see in your hometown? What’s on your bucket list?
A long time ago I went on a trolley tour around Philadelphia to see all the murals on buildings around Philly. I never knew there were so many of them. It was a great trip!
Maybe ten years or more ago now, some of us who went to school together in the '80s found each other on Facebook and organized a lunch event on the Spirit of Philadelphia. It was the only time I've ever been to Philly "on my own" - I came up from South Carolina for a couple days. We had a blast, then I walked around the shops for a few hours before heading back to my motel. 100% recommend, especially if you can do it with friends you love.
